Questions
It depends on what's inside. Scan-heavy and photo-heavy PDFs shrink the most — 70-90% is common on strong — because embedded images are what makes a PDF large. Mostly-text PDFs are already small and may barely change.
Each level sets how far embedded images are downsampled: light keeps 300 dpi (print quality), balanced targets 150 dpi (crisp on screen), strong pushes to 72 dpi (smallest file). Text and vector graphics stay sharp at every level.
Some PDFs are already optimized, and re-compressing them would actually make the file bigger. When that happens, you get your original back unchanged and the run notes it as already compact — you never receive a larger file than you uploaded.
No — no AI model reads your files. The compression is fully deterministic: each PDF is re-distilled through Ghostscript at the level you picked, so the same input always produces the same output.
Yes. Compression runs on our own servers, your PDFs are never sent to a third party, and files are auto-deleted 7 days after the job finishes.
